Unknown, forgotten and insignificant? A rediscovery of classical modernism: Sascha Wiederhold began painting in 1924. He belonged to the circle of the Berlin gallery “Der Sturm”. Under National Socialism, he broke off his creative work and from then on worked as a bookseller. Only a few of Wiederhold’s works have survived. You will learn details about the exhibited works and objects as well as historical background.

Sascha Wiederhold’s pictorial worlds consist of wildly swirling shapes and patterns as well as intense colors. In the process, his large-format paintings convey an almost psychedelic visual experience. Dieter Scholz reports from a curatorial perspective on the rediscovery of the artist and the genesis of the exhibition.

Wildly swirling shapes, patterns and intense colors come together in Sascha Wiederhold’s works to create amazing visual worlds. You will be inspired by his works. Together with other children you create an impressive stage set for a new circus world. You will become a gallant dancer, a clumsy clown or an acrobat.

Exhibition talk for school students
On a large podium
The pupils* experience an intensive color experience, surprising picture compositions and stage worlds of the little known Sturm artist Sascha Wiederhold. Together they will discuss selected large formats and designs and question how works by artists can largely disappear from the collective memory and suddenly step onto the podium.

The Education, Outreach and Visitor Services Department is the central educational institution of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin and, as such, is entrusted with the conception and implementation of offerings in all 15 collections.
